Activities at NSI
At NSI, Mohan brings in his field research and conservation education skills and has contributed to:

  • Monitoring frugivorous birds and mammals and fruiting patterns in the Rajaji-Dehradun landscape
  • Training rural youth in bird identification to promote eco-tourism in collaboration with Uttarakhand Forest Department

Experience
  • Mohan Joshi helped research woodpecker communities in sal forests.
  • Mohan has carried out extensive transect surveys and monitored frugivores and seed dispersal with the Centre for Ecological Sciences (Indian Institute of Science).
  • Mohan has also surveyed elephants in the Shiwalik Elephant Reserve.
  • Mohan is part of the core group that set up Youth for Living Planet, a youth group that has helped raise awareness about conservation issues in rural Uttarakhand.
  • Mohan is a trained mountaineer and adventure guide.
